Oh Dearie Me.

Well, I had a wonderful weekend, despite some unfortunate happenings
earlier in the week.

Dinner with my beau (and imagine that I said
that like Scarlett O'Hara, it's fun) and awesome friends
at Mugshots on Friday night.
It was great to finally get to know
some people that I don't usually get a chance to
hang out with.

Getting plenty of sleep on Friday night through Saturday
and waking up to watch a classic on ABCFamily,
Rookie of the Year.
Don't underestimate that film.
It's great.

("Hey, pitcher! You got something hanging out
of your nose! Pitcher's got a big butt!")

Lunch in Odenville at Charlie's BBQ
and benchmarking with Jesse.

Family time with the Scotts
and trippy-trip to Workplay
to see The Civil Wars w/Lucy Schwartz.

Whole show=AMAZING.

I had never seen Lucy Schwartz
perform before and only knew one of her
songs, but she blew everyone away.

She is an amazing pianist
and she has mastered a loop
machine that would rival Imogen Heap.

The Civil Wars, of course,
did not disappoint
again (last show seen in August at Workplay).

They sang most of the songs from their
new album, Barton Hollow
and were amazed
when everyone starting singing along.

And not to brag or anything,
but the crowd from Saturday night
was referred to as the best crowd ever.
Just sayin'.

Haha.

More weekend news coming up later!

Snowpocolypse.

And I'm gonna look like a copy cat,
if you also follow my buddy at Adam-and-E.

Haha.

I've been listening to The Civil Wars
new album, Barton Hollow, with few breaks
the past few days,
because it is AMA-ZA-ZING.

If I could afford it and I was friends with them,
I would totally ask them to sing at my wedding.

Especially this song:

I think it just works perfectly
for Jesse's and my story.

Maybe I'll ask them if they
would like to attend the wedding
on Saturday night
when Jesse and I go to see
them at Workplay.

Then again, maybe not.
Haha.

They're probably busy.

Song of the Day

Such a pretty song, especially
if you know the backstory...
which of course I do...
being the Beatles snob that I am.

FYI, there is a new movie coming out
this weekend in NY and LA (at least)
called

It's about the teen years of John Lennon.
Should be pretty good.
I'm still a little sad that Julian Lennon (John's first son)
wasn't included in this process at all.
(Yoko and Sean Lennon were asked to
see a private screening to approve the film...as if Yoko was
around during that time. Why not ask Cynthia?)

Still going to watch it.

Come on pretty baby!

I have reconnected with Pandora...
I'm sorry that I haven't listened in so long.
Their playlists are always wonderful.

Right now my songs are coming from
"Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter"
by Herman's Hermits.

Good stuff.

And since I attended a copyright law meeting
yesterday, I have been thinking about how
legal it is to listen to this music in my office.

Can my friends who have just been sworn in as FL attorneys
help me out with this quandary?

Have a jail-free Tuesday!

Laconic Irony

If you haven't visited photo site,
you need to do so.

Here are some of my
favorite typography

especially the last one.

Also, if you haven't checked out
Google's new project,
do that too.

In fact, try and knock out
both of these assignments
today if you have time.

Arcade Fire has already completed one
and it's crazy cool.

Silly Boy

In this mood this morning
for a little

Which lead me to their website/blog...
Which lead me to to the list of the top 50 songs of the 90s,
of which I had to check out.
So here are some of my favorites from that list.

Foo Fighters, "Big Me"

Beastie Boys, "Sabotage"

Weezer, "Buddy Holly"

The other songs on the list were apparently too out there for
me to actually remember as a youngster in the 90s.
Bjork? Really?
I didn't want to listen to her as a 10-year-old
and I don't want to listen to her as a 26-year-old.

In the words of the late, great Paul Harvey... "Good Day!"

Happy Days

Campus is filled with... porta-potties...
And signs telling me to be off of campus by 5pm on Friday.

Thanks, Bama.
You know how to make me feel at home.

Sarcasm aside, here is a little sneak peek at a little musical group,
you may have heard of them...the Million Dollar Band!
Enjoy!

I also noticed that the band has recruited a kid that I used to babysit.
I'm officially old.
Congratulations, Tyler!

On a more Thursday night focused note,
I'm making chicken pot pie.
Yes, I know I said hot dogs yesterday,
but I think we can have it made before everyone
gets to the house.

It'll be yummy.

And maybe one of those no-bake desserts...
I don't have that much time this afternoon, gosh.

Culs-de-sac

I've been "scroodle-lee doodling" all morning
and thought I'd pass it along.

You are welcome.

I've also been researching more and more
recipes for small group...
and browsed through a very cute cupcake book
the other day.

If I had unlimited resources and time abounding,
I would totally make these cupcakes.

A House Is Not A Home

On every other Sunday afternoon at about 4pm,
I have to drive from Pinson, AL
back to Tuscalooosa.

Tumblr_kptfojsvzd1qzgq8co1_400_large

I don't like this, but at the same time I do .
Confused?
Driving for an hour (or 50 minutes, yesterday),
affords me the time I need to process new
questions and ponder future plans.

Do you ever need time alone
just to think about whatever?
Or time to listen to songs that
encourage introspection?

Example:

This is actually the first Journey song that I remember
hearing as a kid in a movie that I probably should
not have been allowed to watch at that age.
Last American Virgin. (Favorite scene: cocaine/sweet'n low)

Anyway, I digress.

Before April of this year, all I really thought
about during this song was that I was alone.

Now, I reflect on it and think happy thoughts
about all of the time that I had to wait.
Even though I wasn't all that patient for the time to come.
I'm really glad that it has.

Orthoepy \awr-THOH-uh-pee\

It's important that I included that second part (above), otherwise
the definition of the word would be lost.

Hope everyone is having a fine Thursday morning.
Including my buddy, Mizz Baker,
who is 24 today!
Happy birthday, friend.

And extra observation,
it feels great outside.
I love the beginnings of autumn.

Use the force...

via & via below
I Heart Hurley Sticker (Rectangle)
Thanks, Weezer, for dedicating your next album
to my favorite character on LOST.

The songs that I have been able
to listen to haven't been
half bad either.
As per usual.

Hope you are having a very nice Saturday.

Killer Tofu

In a better mood now. This morning I was surrounded by a feeling of general malaise. Blargh.

I guess Chinese food helps enhance my mood. Thanks, Lai Lai.
And I guess I shouldn't discount the ice cream social either... thanks, UA Staff Committee.

I made it just under the wire to get my ice cream and
avoid the nice storm that's a-brewin' outside right now. Oh yeah.

And apparently, when you make a "Video Killed the Radio Star" station on Pandora, they will play everything but the Buggles, including Foo Fighters, The Pixies, Queen, The Beatles, and Don McLean. Not that I'm complaining or anything. I love it.

Looking forward to another great weekend and PB&J.

A Horse That's Not Running

The song "Pinball Wizard" by The Who came on the radio today while I was driving home for lunch and it automatically put me in a good mood. What kind of power does music possess that it can change our demeanor in an instant?

I caught the beginning of High Fidelity yesterday and John Cusack's character, Rob, was talking about his top 5 breakups and the power of pop music to make him miserable.

"What came first, the music or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss. Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?"

Good question, Rob. Here's the answer for you. You were miserable first. Even when Barry played "Walking in Sunshine," you wore a scowl. Who scowls at "Walking on Sunshine?" A jerk, that's who. Maybe you have a problem compartmentalizing your sadness in order to enjoy the hidden pleasures in life. Now I am not saying completely disregard the bad things that have happened in your life, however, you shouldn't let that sadness rule your life or you will be telling yet another story about the "girl that got away." You know why she got away? Your maudlin personality forced her to stick her head in the oven, sunshine.

Now, Rob, here is the song that made me smile today. Enjoy. Seriously.

Christos Anesti!

Keeping the Greek thing going at least for today... means "Christ is risen!" Christ is risen, indeed!

Hope you have had a wonderful Easter/Resurrection Sunday--whatever you wanna call it.

I took some interesting looks today at Starbucks in my black dress...sorry it was my "costume" for church choir cantata...wore a purple scarf with it...brightened it up just a bit. If those people don't like it...they can "GET OUT." haha.

The cantata went well. As well as we could do that is. I didn't hear any complaints and I enjoyed the whole performance...except for the very heavy music book that I held with one hand for a straight 35 minutes. Yeah, my arms are getting crazy strong. If some mugger tries to get me, I can hit him with my new Popeye arms...that'll show 'em. Ate lunch at Cracker Barrel with the family and one of my friends who couldn't go home for Easter. Good food. Didn't have to wait too long, just about 10 minutes and looked at the new summer items that CB has to offer.

Rushed from lunch to work...yes, work. Stupid rec center has to be open on Easter... you know how many people would have been disappointed that we were closed had we been? 9. Yes, nine people wouldn't have had a chance to work out today. They could have made up for it tomorrow...or you know what? It was a lovely day in T-town. Walking outside wouldn't have killed any of them. I actually want to do that later...so I will. :)

Talked to my mom today about girl stuff...and boy stuff I suppose... seems I work too much to find myself a boyfriend. Sad. Well, my soul mate better mosey on down to the rec center or my office and make himself known. That's what I say. haha.

Only two more weeks until my fun concert trip with Jen and Vicki to see RAY LAMONTAGNE!! Yeah!! I am super excited.

So I went to a double feature last night...which has been a rare occurence these days...even for just a single feature... First up was Fast and Furious, seriously I had to relieve the old days of watching the original and then watching guys in cars with half of the speed of the ones from the movie get pulled over for speeding right out of the Fox theatres parking lot. Oh...good times. Needless to say the movie didn't disappoint. It was what I expected it would be and that is all...
The second movie however appealed to my more humorous (or so I thought) nature and contained an audience to whom I related. We went to a 9:55pm showing of Adventureland, which I expected much more than what I actually received. Unfortunately the characters portrayed by Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig were not featured nearly as much as I expected them to be. HOWEVER, when they were in the scene they definitely stole it, because they were the only comedy relief in the whole film, besides the character of Frigo, played by that kid who in the AT&T rollover minutes commercials...flippin' hilarious character is all I have to say. The rest of the movie seemed to be filled with a very maudlin look at the decline of the American family and how that affected its youth that were becoming America's present in 1987. A good comparison being a America in '87 was also going through a pretty hefty recession as we are now. The character of James, played by Jesse Eisenberg, set the tone of the youth that existed then and still exist today... totally unprepared for the future with expectations of continuous parental help. The mixtape he made for Kristen Stewart's character, Emily, set the musical tone of "sad-bummer songs".
Also, Kristen Stewart proved that her range is pretty stationary (stationery?...I can never remember)---> pothead with severe anxiety and depression. And on another side note: what is it with teenagers and hipsters overuse of the "f" word. Seriously, do they think it makes them sound smarter? Because it doesn't. It puts a limit on their vocabulary, however, extensive it actually may be, and makes them sound truly ignorant.
I didn't really understand what the underlying plot of the story actually was...but I guess it was an informal social commentary of the continuous decline of the American family and education and the lack of career choices for college students straight from graduation...I really don't know... But that's my theory. You can form your own and get back to me on that. Thanks.

Passenger

So I have thought up another story line to add to my first novel idea...seeing as it is "National Novel Writing Month"... so yesterday I commented saying that I would not be continuing with the present story line as is because it has been mirroring my own life way too much. So after having some "girl time" with some of my friends and talking about our several guy friends that serve no potential whatsoever to any of us other than "friends" I decided to add another guy to mix....I know, original. Whatever.

Anywho... in order to insure that everyone can be a winner although I don't think everyone will be a winner in my book... it's my book I can make someone lose if I want to... I will be adding another guy to confuse matters further between our two main characters that have been ripped apart by doubt...and the past... idk. It's a work in progress... I will not have 50,000 words written on this book by the end of the month... I would say I won't have 50,000 words written by the end of next year...

It may not be a very original story line...but frankly what is these days? These are the types of things that happen in real life so I will be writing about them and really don't care if you think I can think of something better than I what I already have. It's really not like people actually read this blog anyway so I can write whatever the heck I want...right?

So in my first blog attempt I included some synopsis material from my book..."wip" that it is.
Extension of first book...take 31.

3 years later our main female character is in "hiding" from those who she felt most betrayed by...that is the main male character, who she thinks has married the intrusive hussy who interrupted her wedding and caused so much of a ruckus that the main female character is now in hiding.......(heavy breathing).

Still deciding whether to give our main female character some middle of the road job like at Starbucks or some flower shop or something or give her a more substantial career.

New fellow shows up at her place of work (TBD) and flirts and asks her on a date...new unknown to her triangle begins... as the main male character is still searching for her. The new fellow and she get along really well and like many of the same things...she feels herself giving a little more of her heart to him each day...but is still holding back that part of her past that may or may not scare him away.

Now here's where it can start to look too much like some Nicholas Sparks' The Notebook plagiarism... the main male character finally finds her... but in the arms of another man...Dah duh duh!

Does he go back home to get over her or does he interfere and try to win her back and convince her there is no one else in the world but her for him? Find out next time. If you dare...

Too cheesy for you? Not cheesy enough?
I guess there's no pleasing anyone these days...

And unlike Stephenie Meyer I am not listening to Muse... who I find to be a mediocre and uninspiring band. Sorry.

I am however listening to Coldplay. They don't necessarily inspire scenes from me but the songs are really nice to listen to when I am typing...so there.
