So yeah, went to see Ray LaMontagne at Alabama Theatre last night and he was AMA-ZA-ZING! Totally! There are no ifs, ands, or buts about it...that guy is a wonderful performer and even threw aside some of his shyness to cuss his guitar tech, when his guitar was tuned a bit too sharp for him...
He definitely played all of my favorites including "Meg White," "Hey Me, Hey Mama," "Hold Me in Your Arms," and so many more I can't name them all... Just wonderful is all I can say about HIS show...
However, ol' Jessica Lea Mayfield was a different matter... I understand why she was paired with Ray to tour, but she was way, way too maudlin to play a whole set before Ray. Every single one of her songs sounded exactly the same... and they sounded like...If Bella Swan had a band, this is what it would sound like... really sad and depressing. ALTHOUGH, there was one bright spot in this band...the Haley Baker lookalike! I am serious! This girl had some serious mannerisms like my ol' buddy! My other friend referred to her as the "crazy-armed drummer."
All in all...a wonderful night was had and I would go to another show if he had one tonight even... I would call into the rec center "sick." Go listen to ol' Ray, please.
